| RRD Manager - RRD Collector |
RRD graphs are generated with the data extracted from the RRD databases. rrd graphs are image files that can be displayed either directly by the RRD Collector plugin, from the RRD manager interface with Microsoft Windows image viewer or within a report locally or from the LoriotPro remote console (html format). rrd graphs are always created on the fly when you ask for a report or when the RRD databases are updated.
rrd graphs are always built in the same way, the abscissa is the time variable and the ordinate plot the value of the data coming from the RRD bases.
Each point of a graph item is built from data coming directly from the database or is a consolidated value or is a calculated value coming from a RPN expression.
The rrd graph generation is usually performed by using a graph profile where all the graph parameters are defined. A graph profile is linked to the database(s) from where the data are extracted. RRD graph can also be generated on demand (Custom graphs) by specifying some of the parameters (the time span at least) in the SNMP advanced mode of the RRD Collector plug-in.
The power of rrd graphs their capability to displayed values extracted from different RRD databases. (Of course the databases should contains values archived for the same time span)
The creation of a graph profile is composed of for main steps, one is optional.
Step 1 – Define the global properties of the graphs
Step 2 – Define each virtual date source (specifies which data are extracted and in which RRD database)
Step 3 – Define new virtual source issue from RPN expressions (optional)
Step 4 – Define the items to plot in the graph and their look (line, area, stacked area)
In the following chapter we describe more in details those four steps.
